A Lovely Doll Collection

Rita McKinnon has been a long-time resident of Richmond B.C, living in the lovely city since 1973. She was born in Shanghai, China in 1935 and joined her family when they came to Canada in the 1950’s, eventually settling down in Vancouver. Rita married her husband in the 1950’s and they had three wonderful daughters together. She was primarily a home maker, looking after her children, although she did work for the 7-11 at #1 and Steveston Hwy for a while, as well as at the Art Knapps, that used to be located on #1 Road.

Throughout her whole life Rita collected dolls. She was very proud of her large collection, having them displayed all over her home and in a designated cabinet. In total she had collected over 50 dolls, 39 of which her daughter Sharon hand picked to donate to SOS Children’s Village BC Thrift Store. We were happy to take the dolls, and hopefully give them a new loving home. Rita now lives in a care facility in White Rock and was delighted to hear that her dolls were back on display at SOS BC Thrift Store!

To see and appreciate Rita’s amazing doll collection, come down and visit the Thrift Store at 3800 Moncton St, Richmond, BC V7E 3A7
